Commitments for a Sustainable Vision

Sustainability lies at the heart of Genève Aéroport's strategy.
Our development is sustainable with a solid, credible, and measurable plan across three dimensions: social, environmental, and economic.
Genève Aéroport pursues a sustainable development strategy to reduce its carbon footprint while meeting the expectations of its communities.

A Well-Defined Operating Framework

The operating and infrastructure development framework of the airport is defined by the PSIA dossier for Genève Aéroport, adopted by the Federal Council in November 2018. It establishes the general conditions of operation, the perimeter of the aerodrome, equipment, noise exposure, and elements for the protection of nature and the landscape. The PSIA dossier was subject to extensive consultation with the relevant Swiss and French authorities. This has allowed Genève Aéroport to consider all expectations and integrate the airport's evolution into the broader context of sustainable regional development.

OUR COMMITMENTS

We are aware of the necessity for change and our responsibility in transforming our industry.
In response to societal, economic, ecological, and climate changes, as well as stakeholder expectations and in line with our strategic objectives, Genève Aéroport has established four concrete commitments within its sustainable development policy:

1. Provide efficient and sustainable infrastructure and services:

Deliver quality, reliable, innovative, resilient, accessible, safe, and comfortable infrastructure and services at the best cost while addressing user needs as much as possible. Prioritize sustainable use of natural resources and limit pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions across the entire lifecycle of infrastructure and services.

2. Preserve the living environment and strengthen ties with the region:

Minimize nuisances for neighboring populations, particularly regarding noise and air quality, and foster a relationship of trust based on transparency and respectful, constructive dialogue. Promote regional economic development and create opportunities for society by enhancing intercontinental flights and valuing local expertise, culture, and products. Develop partnerships to address social, environmental, and economic challenges. Continue an active sponsorship policy in sports, culture, tourism, and charity sectors.

3. Be an attractive and responsible employer:

Ensure a high-quality working environment and equitable, respectful, and motivating working conditions that prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of all employees. Promote professional integration and cultivate diversity within an inclusive work environment that fosters creativity and values individual contributions. Maintain employee employability and encourage the development of their technical, behavioral, and sustainability-related skills.

4. Implement responsible procurement and partnerships:

Foster fair business relationships with partners, acting equitably and preventing conflicts of interest and corruption risks. Ensure compliance with legal working conditions among partners and promote ecological and ethical products and services. Raise awareness among partners about socio-environmental impacts and sustainable practices, engaging them in achieving sustainability objectives.

Our Decarbonization and Noise Reduction Program at Genève Aéroport Has Clear Timelines:

2030 Reduce noise levels to 2000 levels

Through incentives for next-generation aircraft, evening operation restrictions, and operational optimization, we aim to reduce noise levels by 20%, returning to the 2000 baseline.

2037 Achieve Net-Zero CO2 Emissions (Scopes 1 and 2)*

Since 2011, Genève Aéroport has voluntarily worked to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions under its direct control, supporting the goals of the Paris Agreement.
By 2037 at the latest, we aim for Genève Aéroport's activities to leave no CO2 in the atmosphere. To achieve net-zero, we must reduce emissions we directly influence – known as Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions – by at least 90%.

2050 Contribute to Decarbonizing Aviation as a Whole (Scope 3)

The aviation sector accounts for approximately 2.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Around 80% of global aviation CO2 emissions are from flights over 1,500 km, for which practical transportation alternatives are unavailable.
To go further in its commitments and actively contribute to the aviation industry's Net-Zero 2050 goal, Genève Aéroport includes Scope 3 emissions in the scope of its GHG reduction strategy.
